Beautiful Sprinter Van Conversions

One of the ideas that my husband and I are toying with, is buying a used van and a sprinter van conversion ourselves. I’ve seen lots of sprinter van conversions as well as VWs and even the little minivan conversions; that just get me so excited.

It would be a more affordable option for us, even though the price of a used van is still in the $10k plus range.

Oh, the other part that is probably important to mention is that neither my husband nor I have any experience in doing this type of thing. Lucky Ben is a bit of a handy man… but emphasis on the word ‘bit’. :-O

My favourite are the sprinter van conversions because:

  • they don’t stick out like a sore thumb that they’re an RV
  • they’re tall enough to stand in (my husband is 6 ft)
  • small enough to drive almost all roads
  • large enough to not have to cook on the bed or shower in the kitchen

I’ve seen some pretty shoddy van conversions over the years, where a few pieces of wood are nailed together to form a platform for a bed, the kitchen sink is a bucket and the water supply is 2L plastic bottles. I’m not talking about those.

I’m talking about the van conversions where you’re grateful to lay your head at night, in a comfortable, warm, tidy, well-designed space. And visually pleasing would be nice too. I don’t need pretty, but I don’t want ugly either.

These are exactly what I’m talking about…

Spacious and Breezy

Sprinter Van Conversions - I love the idea of living so small and mobile, but with all the creature comforts of home. Kristen's van looks so spacious yet homely to me.

Much as I love seeing beautiful van conversions like these one, they do make me a tad nervous… now I want a van that looks like one of these! I don’t have the skills to build this myself, and I’m pretty sure my pallet of wood with a mattress on top is NOT going to cut it anymore. <sigh>

Have you ever wanted to do a sprinter van conversion yourself?

I do, so I’ve found this book that gives us the full low-down on everything to do with converting a sprinter van into a home on wheels.
